What would soon become Jasper’s family -- a group of people that Alice insisted they find -- makes him feel unworthy. They are all so accepting and so quickly too, the worst being Esme who hovers over him like a mother hen.

He shows his weakness sooner than he wants and a trip to Alaska is planned shortly after. Alice holds him, his heavy head against her shoulder.

“It will be better. When you aren’t around humans as much and get a taste for what they eat. It will be better. I promise.”

He couldn’t help but feel that all her promises were as empty as his vacant chest.

Tanya has her mind focused on the newest Cullen addition before she’s even set eyes on him. She enjoys challenges and those in a relationship were her favorites.

Her eyes glaze over Jasper and he acts as if he knows her intentions. Suddenly she gasps from lust, crashing into her like vicious animal, ravaging her body. Everyone else in the room shows signs of discomfort but she is intrigued.

She looks to Edward, asking a question inside her head. Edward glares at her, ripping her from the room and slamming a door behind them.

“Do not prey on him, Tanya.”

She jerks from his grasp and falls backwards onto the couch behind her. “I haven’t done anything, Edward.”

Edward flashes in front of her, still glaring and nearly seeing the metaphorical daggers in his eyes. “Yet. You haven’t done anything yet. But you will. I know you will. Please control yourself.”

Tanya pushes Edward and stands, creeping to the doorway and winking before remembering her question from before.

“What is his power? Because I felt something…,” Tanya drifts off, closing her eyes and nearly feeling it again.

Edward walks to her, putting a hand on the edge of the door, not letting it open and spits his words. “He is empathetic. Do not take advantage.”

Tanya reopens her eyes and kisses Edward’s cheek. “No need to fret, dear. You’ll get worry lines.”

She pushes Edward again and slips out the door, returning to the group. Her sisters are as equally enchanted at a very coy Jasper but she’s making him hers. They look to her and Kate is pouting, knowing she doesn’t have a chance.

.

“Would you like to go hunting with me?” Tanya’s singsong voice is fake, sugary, and Jasper knows it; he can feel everything that creeps inside her.

Jasper doesn’t look up from his newspaper, trying to be as uninterested as possible. “I hunted yesterday.”

Tanya throws an arm around his shoulder and whispers in his ear, “I know.”

Jasper meets her eyes, a perfect caramel hue that his own don’t reflect yet. He tries to stop himself from feeling what he shouldn’t but she’s gasping against his ear again and he knows he’s translucent in her presence.

He doesn’t answer, only lifts from his chair and opens the door that leads to the snowy outdoors. Tanya follows him like a quiet ghost, grinning from ear to ear.

.

It’s hours and they still haven’t found a decent meal while she’s hanging on his arm like a lovesick teenager.

“We should go back. Alice will wonder…,” but Jasper never finishes his sentence because Tanya’s body presses into him from behind.

It’s so subtle he barely notices it; her fingertips weaving into his hair, pulling him much closer than he ever should be. He shivers when her lips graze against the back of his neck, he is silently begging inside his head for every thing to stop, wants to hit her with a wave of anything to stop what this is leading to.

Tanya’s words fall from her lips, gasps leaving her between sentences. He barely understands her until what he's so afraid of leaves her perfectly curved mouth.

“No one will know or tell, not even Edward. He has his own secrets to keep.”

Tanya’s lips are against his before he can stop her and his own arms encircle her waist, pulling her closer. He tries to stop, tries to make himself remember what he is risking with even this simple action.

He can’t. All he can see is the way Tanya’s pale skin will look against the white snow covering the forest floor. One push and she’s on the ground pulling him down as well.

He breaks from their kiss, looking at her and the feeling of regret washing over him. Tanya looks up at him, still trying to kiss him but he’s strong enough to resist for a moment.

“No one. No one will know about this.”

Tanya nods at him, her hands pulling at his shirt. He finds her mouth again and doesn’t let anything matter except what is inside this moment: her teeth raking down his neck and his hands pulling her closer and closer to him.

The snow beneath them may be white but it is now stained with a secret both of them will keep for decades.
