Edward couldn’t help the cold timbre of his voice and how it seemed to echo off every single surface in the room.

“That’s it, then. It’s that easy for you cut all ties?”

He felt Jacob’s words, every syllable, felt them like blades under his skin, carving out wounds in his granite flesh.

Edward nods because if he speaks now, he’ll take every sentence back. Jacob shakes his head, claps his hands together and stands, looking down at Edward like an enemy, not the lover he was minutes ago.

“I never liked you, I never even tolerated you. I loved you. Just remember that, when you stand in front of everyone, and pretend you’re happy.”

Edward drops his head, his hands holding the sides, trying to press all of Jacob’s thoughts out of his head. Images of weddings and Bella… Bella.

“Have fun killing her. Send me a postcard from your honeymoon.”
