Alice invaded the Cullens lives like a sigh out of place, her smile and musical laughter ringing through the house. Esme watched her with a curious fascination, delighting in how every syllable sounded like a stroke of a piano key.

“Alice, may I speak with you?” Esme met Alice’s eyes and smiled sweetly.

Alice twirled Esme’s direction, smiling ear to ear. Esme took her hand and led her outside, happy for yet another overcast day. When Esme’s eyes glanced over Alice again, she laughed, covering her mouth.

Alice beamed and clapped her hands together. “You love me already. I know it. I see it.”

Esme stifled another laugh and placed a hand gingerly on Alice’s forearm. “I already feel like you’re one of mine.”

Alice’s arms wrap around Esme and she gasps in surprise. Esme returns the favor, hugging Alice tightly.
